The legal thresholds for hallmarking are 1 gram for gold, 7.78 grams for silver, and 0.5 grams for platinum. If you are selling gold weighing over 1 gram, sterling silver weighing over 7.78 grams, or platinum weighing over 0.5 grams, the item must be hallmarked by law.
